Who is God?
“From everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.” (Psalm 90:2) “God is angry with the wicked every day.” (Psalm 7:11) God is eternal. He is self-existing and has always been exactly as He is now. He is holy – above His creation and separate from sin.
Where did we come from?
“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1) God spoke and the entire universe was created, including man, His image-bearer made to reflect His glory. All of creation was in harmony, with perfect fellowship between God and man.
What went wrong?
“…Sin entered into the world” (Romans 5:12) Adam and Eve knowingly disobeyed God, rejecting His authority. The consequences were devastating. Sin entered the hearts of Adam and Eve and their descendants. Therefore, all of humanity is rightfully under the wrath of God: death and eternal punishment.
Can anything be done?
“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” (2 Corinthians 5:21) After the first sin, God gave humanity a promise of hope that was pictured in sacrifices and predicted by prophets. It was fulfilled when God the Son became man in Jesus Christ, whose perfect life ended with His death on a cross. Christ bore the sin of all people, and absorbed God’s wrath against that sin in His death. Jesus became a substitute for all who would receive Him. On the third day, Jesus walked out of His tomb, fulfilling His mission to defeat sin by rising from the dead.
What should I do?
“Repent…and believe the Gospel.” (Mark 1:15) In love, God calls us to repentance and faith. Repentance happens when God shows you the seriousness of your sin against Him, and you reject that sin. Faith means trusting only in Jesus’ death in your place to give you a right standing with God.
The gospel is God’s message to us. Though we are under His wrath, He came in Christ to bear that wrath for us. The gospel calls you to repent of your sin and rely on Jesus’ death in your place. What will you do with this good news?
