Pastor Alfred King grew up in Northwest Tucson and Catalina, Arizona. As a young man, God began to work on his heart about reaching these areas with the Gospel. Over the course of the next several years God solidified the call to start a Baptist church in the Oro Valley area of Arizona.
Upon graduating from high school, Pastor King attended Heartland Baptist Bible College in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma from which he graduated in 2006 with a BA in Pastoral/Biblical Studies.
Shortly after graduating, Pastor King along with is wife Shirley went on to serve at Fellowship Baptist Church in Liberal, Kansas under Pastor Bill Prater. God used their three years at Fellowship Baptist to grow them and prepare them to start a church in Oro Valley.
In April 2009, the King Family left Liberal in preparations for the starting of North Valley Baptist Church, then on April 11, 2010, North Valley Baptist Church held its first service with 67 in attendance.
At the time, services were being held in a rented facility at Painted Sky Elementary, a local school, but in November 2010, God allowed them to purchase their own building, a retired fire station which was remodeled and opened for services in April 2011. In the beginning, only the north half of the building was remodeled, but it soon became necessary to expand and renovations began on the main bay area of the facility. The work was completed in the summer of 2013 and on July 21, 2013 a grand opening and dedication service was held. Since that time God has continued to grow His people and together we are looking forward to what God has in store for the future of North Valley Baptist Church!
